The Job The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, operations, and strategic direction of Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. This role ensures that the facility operates safely, efficiently, and profitably while delivering exceptional experience for participants, spectators, sponsors, and partners. The GM oversees daily operations, staff management, event scheduling, financial performance, facility maintenance, and community/industry relations.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

Lead, mentor, and manage staff across operations, events, maintenance, safety, and administration.

Establish and uphold a strong culture of safety, customer service, and teamwork.

Recruit, train, and develop staff to ensure operational excellence.

Operations & Facility Management

Oversee daily operations of the track, concessions, parking, and related facilities.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations, sanctioning body requirements, and environmental standards.

Coordinate facility maintenance, upgrades, and capital improvements.

Event & Program Management

Develop and manage the annual event calendar, including races, track days, driving schools, private rentals, and community events.

Work with sanctioning bodies, promoters, and partners to host and grow successful events.

Ensure smooth execution of events with a focus on safety, customer satisfaction, and profitability.

Financial Management

Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial performance goals.

Monitor revenue streams, expenses, and profitability of events and facility rentals.

Identify opportunities for revenue growth, sponsorships, and cost efficiencies.

Marketing, Sponsorship, & Community Relations

Promote track, events, and programs through marketing, media, and community engagement.

Build, maintain, and grow relationships with sponsors, vendors, sanctioning bodies, and local organizations.

Represent the track at industry and community events.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and track operating procedures.

Maintain emergency response protocols and staff training.

Coordinate with insurance providers, local agencies, and sanctioning bodies.

Experience / Education Requirements / Minimum Skills

High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum 5-7 years of event management experience with progressive responsibility; experience at a motorsports facility, sports venue, or large-scale event operations is preferred.

Minimum 3-4 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.

Proven leadership experience in motorsports, sports facility management, hospitality, or related field.

Experience managing budgets and coordinating multi-departmental projects is required.

Strong leadership and communication skills with ability to motivate and develop staff.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software.

Problem-solving abilities and experience managing multiple priorities.

Understanding of motorsports operation, event planning, facility operations, and customer service.

Knowledge of safety and compliance requirements for event venues.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

Adaptable and able to handle changing priorities.

Service-focused with commitment to excellent customer experience.

Strong business acumen with experience in budgeting, P&L oversight, and revenue generation.

Knowledge of motorsports operations, safety standards, and sanctioning body requirements preferred.

Familiarity with motorsports industry stakeholders, trends, and best practices.

Experience with sponsorship sales, community engagement, and partnership development.

Physical Requirements

Able to work at a computer and navigate facility grounds including stairs and outdoor areas.

Physical capability to lift to 50lbs and work in various weather conditions.

Flexibility to work extended schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays during events.

Ability to work 10-12 hour days outdoors during major racing events.
