Directs individual contributors in a matrix environment and is accountable for meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback. Participates in (or leads) cross-department teams to influence animal medicine and research strategies which includes serving on sector teams such as the J&J MedTech Biosafety Core Team and serves as lead and the veterinary animal welfare subject matter expert to the MedTech Animal Care & Use Council. Establishes an operational strategy for vivarium operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety guidelines, standard operating procedures, and federal and departmental guidelines around inspecting animal rooms. Serve as the Attending Veterinarian, overseeing adequacy of veterinary care and other aspects of animal care and use. Responsible for assuring the health and well-being of animals used in research and teaching. Direct ongoing assessment of animal health, review of pre- and post-operative veterinary care, medical records, and monitor morbidity and mortality of animals. Serve as an active voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and participate in IACUC, AAALAC, and USDA site visits and inspections. Serve as primary spokesperson and advocate for Animal Welfare Acts as the Controlled Substance Officer and oversee the use of controlled substances in compliance with DEA requirements. Proactively creates a purpose driven environment by aligning Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives with the strategies and goals of the team and enterprise. Responsible for managing operational aspects of their teams (e.g., budget, performance, and compliance), as well as implementing workforce and succession plans to meet business needs. Advises on tactical department planning, such as the scheduling of preventive maintenance for the vivarium and the development of policies regarding animal care, use, health, and sanitation. Advances the development and implementation of procedures related to the acquisition and care of research animals. Works to advance the delivery of projects that have a direct impact on business results. Proactively identifies issues and hurdles and finds effective resolution. Education and Required Experience

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary Medical Doctor Licensure in the state of Ohio Board Certification by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) USDA Accredited Veterinarian, Category 2 10+ years of experience in animal care / welfare, in an industry or contract research organization setting.
