Duties, Responsibilities & Other We’re seeking a highly experienced Senior Highway Project Engineer to lead the planning, design, and execution of major highway infrastructure projects in Virginia. With a decade of hands-on experience, you’ll be responsible for managing multidisciplinary teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering projects that enhance transportation networks and community connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

Direct all phases of highway projects—from feasibility studies to final construction—ensuring alignment with budget, schedule, and VDOT quality standards.

Review and approve detailed engineering designs using software like AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads.

Ensure all designs and construction activities meet federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety standards.

Collaborate with government agencies, contractors, utility companies, and community groups to align project goals and secure approvals.

Develop and monitor project budgets, timelines, and resource allocations using tools like MS Dynamics.

Conduct site inspections, resolve field issues, and ensure construction adheres to design specifications and safety protocols.

Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications Education and/or Work Experience Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry)

Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects

Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery

Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders

Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment

Education And/or Work Experience Preferred

Master’s Degree

Certificates, Licenses, And/or Registrations Required

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
