General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, follows company best practice standards, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Associate will be engaged in these tasks during all working hours and may perform a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require. Additional tasks may be assigned to achieve Customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment; keeps egress clear to emergency exits; reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; friendly and professional at all times; recognizes fellow Associates through Company recognition programs.
  • Assists Customers as needed — register-trained, helps with merchandise, and answers questions politely and knowledgeably. Greets Customers with eye contact, smiles, and says "hello"; thanks customers at the register.
  • Provides prompt and efficient responses to Customers; responds to Customer Service calls; handles issues courteously and with leadership involvement when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to maintain store, customer, and Team areas (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, disinfecting high-touch areas).
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the Company dress code.
  • Performs daily sizing and recovery to ensure a neat, clean, and organized store and well-maintained merchandise presentation.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandises items per guidelines, and maintains brand name familiarity to assist Customers.
  • Understands Loss Prevention Awareness, MOS policies, and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguards confidential information, cash, and merchandise; demonstrates integrity and honesty as a Ross representative.
  • Follows MOS policies, proper processing, and communicates with Store Leadership for disposals.
  • Follows all cash, check, charge card, refunds, voids, and offline procedures; maintains accuracy with tenders.
  • Demonstrates urgency to perform duties efficiently and aligns with Store best practices.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/ADA

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Certain assignments may require other qualifications and skills.
  • Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
