About the Job:

This position involves professional-level work in the maintenance, analysis, interpretation, and management of financial accounting data.

Responsibilities include preparing and posting various journals, ledgers, and accounts; analyzing and presenting financial data; preparing financial statements and expenditure reports; reviewing and approving vouchers and invoices for payment; analyzing budget requirements; preparing payroll data; allocating funds to various accounts or functions; and performing other related activities.

Typical Functions

  • Reviewing, analyzing, and presenting financial data, including revenue projections and expenditure reports, to determine funding requirements.
  • Preparing financial statements, reports of operations, expenditure reports, statistical data, and other information concerning financial requirements.
  • Assisting in gathering and reviewing data for the preparation of budget work programs.
  • Maintaining various ledgers, journals, registers, and other fiscal records.
  • Allocating revenues to appropriate functions and classifying expenditures for posting to various accounts.
  • Reviewing and processing expense vouchers, invoices, and other fiscal documents for payment.
  • Reconciling various financial reports and other data concerning fiscal operations.
  • Determining payroll requirements, maintaining payroll data, and preparing and processing monthly payrolls.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories.
  • Understanding of financial statements and reports.
  • Familiarity with accounting ledgers and journals.
  • Proficiency in computer technology related to accounting systems.
  • Ability to prepare basic financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to review and analyze financial information.
  • Ability to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.
  • Proficient in PeopleSoft.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, with one year of bookkeeping experience substituting for each year of the required education.
  • This position is a 6-month contract, signed on to a W2.
