Overview

The Electrician Journeyman will be responsible for electrical work at the journeyman level, including installing, maintaining, altering, and repairing electrical systems and equipment. Work is performed under supervision of an Electrician foreman, Sub-Foreman, or the Division Director of Facilities Management and must comply with applicable codes. The role may involve installation or service of lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule, train and assign work to electricians.
• Supervise Electrician staff.
• Work independently with little supervision and perform other duties as assigned.
• Conduct health and safety inspections.
• Plan, layout and install electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
• Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices (ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes) to ensure safety and compatibility.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment, including power tools, measuring devices, and testing equipment.
• Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or need for adjustment or repair in compliance with codes.
• Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine wiring or equipment locations and ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems or components using test equipment and hand tools, locate causes of breakdowns, and implement corrections.
• Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
• Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
• Maintain current electrician’s license or identification card to meet regulations.
• Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures with appropriate tools.
• Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment such as motors.
• Direct or train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Completion of Apprenticeship Program.
• Candidates will be subject to multiple criminal background investigations.

Experience Requirements

• Electrician Journeyman level experience.
