Dental Assistant role at Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP).

Description

Position responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients. The Dental Assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation, and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies.

Work Schedule

  • This is a full-time, 38 hours per week, 4 day work week.
  • Must be able to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Due to the nature of the job, this individual must be flexible with their schedule to accommodate the client population.
  • May be required to work at any CCAP location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering questions, and giving directions as authorized by the dentist or dental hygienist.
  • Serves as chair-side assistant to the dentist or dental hygienist.
  • Prepares operatory for patient treatment per Dental Department protocols and provider directions.
  • Exposes and develops dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations and department protocol.
  • Performs independent procedures as delegated by the dentist in accordance with state regulations and department protocol.
  • Maintains Dental Department equipment per manufacturer directions and department policy.
  • Maintains infection control, safety, and center policies across the Dental Department.
  • Maintains operatory supplies and inventories shortages for ordering purposes.
  • Maintains patient records, monitors patient flow, and assists with documentation completion and filing.
  • Receives and places calls as appropriate for professional matters and patient care.
  • Supports clinical and administrative functions as time permits.
  • Ensures sterility of reusable instruments and proper disposal of contaminated materials per protocol and regulations.
  • Complies with the CCAP and Dental Department Exposure Control Plan, including PPE and Universal Precautions.
  • Participates in health promotion and disease prevention activities on-site and off-site as required.
  • Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
  • Performs other related tasks as directed to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of accredited course in certified dental assisting (preferred).
  • Effective oral and written communication in English required; Spanish proficiency preferred.
  • X-Ray Certification.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations.
  • Complete all required background checks.
  • Confidentiality of information and ability to access client records in accordance with laws and CCAP policies.
  • Demonstrate cybersecurity awareness and adhere to best practices (e.g., phishing awareness, strong passwords, training).
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 20 lbs; ability to sit, stand, and maneuver as required; potential exposure to biohazards; ability to work under stress and irregular hours.

Salary
