Overview
The Mechanic is responsible for adhering to safety commitments and customer service standards. The successful candidate will perform repairs and maintenance on waste pick-up trucks and support equipment in accordance with factory and industry standards, run diagnostics on trucks, and collaborate with team members to meet company goals.
Responsibilities
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifies worn and damaged parts.
- Perform minor and major repairs on waste pick-up trucks and support equipment.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and performing winterization procedures.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance on service trucks, including inspections, tire rotation, and oil changes.
- Repair and overhaul major assemblies and systems, including power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; perform machine shop operations and adjustments.
- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
- Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintain vehicle appearance through cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Keep accurate vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Collaborate with the repair team to diagnose problems and plan repairs.
- Keep shop equipment operating by following instructions, troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, and arranging repairs as needed.
- Contain costs by using warranty options and evaluating service and parts options.
- Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by taking ownership and seeking opportunities to add value.
- Follow and comply with all safety policies.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- 2+ years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds
- Excellent reading and writing skills
- ASE Diesel Certification is an asset
Specialized Knowledge
- ASE Diesel Certification preferred
- Must be able to multi-task and have attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
- Light lifting (50-100 pounds), Shop Environment

- Warehouse/ Shop Environment
