Overview
Due to our continued growth in the New York market, we are seeking an experienced Hotel General Manager to lead one of our dynamic, design-forward properties. The General Manager is responsible for continually focusing on achieving hotel profitability through revenue generation, cost control, guest satisfaction and developing employees, while maintaining the integrity of the hotel. Responsibilities
Tour the operating departments daily, making adjustments as needed via department heads. Conduct weekly staff meetings, including weekly training sessions presented by managers and self using Highgate Hotel standards, and review past and future sales and operations efforts. Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion. Hold a monthly financial review with all department managers, M.I.D.s and available supervisors. Ensure department heads maintain budgeted productivity levels and adhere to Highgate Hotel standard checkbook accounting procedures. Develop managers for future advancement through competency training and corporate-sponsored training programs. Work with the Director of Sales to conduct a daily HHBR meeting focusing on prospecting activity and potential business results. Lead hotel sales efforts, including contacting top accounts, meeting clients, hosting luncheons and receptions, and engaging with on-site contacts regularly. Participate in required MOD coverage as scheduled. Maintain direct contact with and monitor the development of management trainees. Adhere to all Highgate Hotel policies and procedures and train new managers to ensure compliance. Oversee and assist in the hotel budget process as required. Ensure training in service standards across departments using Highgate Hotel standards, including compliance with the Garden Standard of the Week training. Foster a positive, team-oriented environment focused on guest satisfaction through employee development and motivation. Inspect rooms regularly (weekly minimum) with the Housekeeping Manager and Property Engineer. Ensure complete processing of invoices daily using the Accounts Payable process. Ensure all information for financial documents is received by the Corporate Office monthly, in line with the monthly accounting calendar. Oversee property cleanliness and maintenance through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with department managers. Ensure employees are attentive, friendly, courteous and efficient in interactions with guests and colleagues. Forecast monthly the hotel’s financial position by estimating revenues and line-item expenses, and prepare reforecasts. Recruit and interview candidates for management positions following Highgate SOPs and ensure compliance in interviewing and hiring procedures for departmental staff. Interview all prospective final candidates for vacant management positions prior to any offer extension. Conduct performance appraisals for Executive Committee members and ensure managers comply with appraisal standards. Motivate, coach, counsel and discipline all management personnel according to SOPs and ensure compliant practices. Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President or Regional Director of Operations. Ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees according to SOPs. Meet clients on the property, including meeting contacts and potential clients touring the property, to assist in sales efforts. Be present in public areas during peak times to greet guests and offer assistance as needed. Ensure hotel security procedures, including safe handling and monthly safe audits are followed. Conduct monthly credit meetings and participate in hotel credit and collection policies. Complete required corporate training modules and become certified to train as required. Ensure that all scheduled meetings take place on the property. Qualifications
At least 6 years progressive experience in a hotel or related field; or a 4-year college degree with 4-5 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree with 5-6 years of related experience. Light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. A warm and friendly demeanor at all times; strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees and guests. Ability to multitask, prioritize departmental functions, and meet deadlines. Attends all required meetings and trainings; participates in MOD coverage as required. Maintains regular attendance and a professional appearance in line with hotel standards. Complies with Highgate Hotel standards and safety regulations to ensure safe and efficient hotel operations. Ability to handle problems, anticipate issues, and resolve them as necessary; can understand and evaluate complex information from multiple sources.
