Description Skilled work at the journeyman level in the trades, involving maintenance and repair of park and trail facilities and amenities. Work involves the application, mixing, documentation tracking, proper storage of chemicals and fertilizers for control of weeds, grasses and other vegetation on County right of ways, drainage areas, retention areas and athletic fields. Essential Functions Note:

Stores, mixes and applies a variety of chemicals and fertilizers in accordance with supervisory direction and/or manufacture's specifications. Uses proper protective and safety equipment in the mixing, storing and application of chemicals and fertilizers. Operates tools, spray equipment, machinery, light and heavy equipment (trucks, mowers, tractors, etc) in the maintenance of ditches, drainage canals, right of way, retention/detention ponds, trails or athletic fields. Performs daily preventive maintenance and minor mechanical maintenance on assigned equipment. Maintains records of chemical application and chemical inventory and submits reports on work performed. Responds and takes action in emergency situations to prevent potential hazardous conditions. Performs cleanup and worksite restoration. Interacts with all trades in the performance of maintenance, repairs, and project tasks. Participates in projects as part of a work team. Makes technical decisions. Functions independently under administrative direction. Additional Duties:

Performs other related work as required. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. Minimum Qualifications High School or GED and two (2) years semi-skilled work experience including operation of light equipment such as trucks, mowers, tractors, and/or commercial lawn maintenance equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class "B". Must possess an Applicator of Chemicals License/Certification, Public Classification as issued by the State of Florida for Right of Way and Aquatics. Acquire and maintain within 6 months of employment a Public Applicator License from the Florida Department of Agriculture. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Additional Requirements Ability to deal with the public in an effective and cooperative manner. Knowledge of equipment, materials and chemicals used in herbicide and fertilizer programs. All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings. Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
