Job Description And Duties Under the general direction of the District Division Chief, Design East, the incumbent serves as Chief of the Office of Landscape Architecture (OLA) for the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties. The incumbent is responsible for the planning and the development of plans for landscape architectural and environmental mitigation projects, as well as aesthetic treatments in connection with freeway, highway and other State transportation projects. The incumbent serves as District Program Advisor for roadside programs, and directs the work of OLA staff in the activities of landscape architectural project development. The incumbent must have a valid certificate of registration as a Landscape Architect issued by the California State Board of Architectural Examiners, Landscape Architecture Program. Special Requirements Pursuant to California Code of Regulations 549.90, this position will be filled via the California Department of Transportation Managerial Selection Program (MSP) process. This process provides for examination and job-selection specific to each position and consistent with the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the classification. Applicants must have a permanent civil service appointment with the Department of Transportation and meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date to participate in the examination. Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Landscape Architect issued by the California Board of Landscape Architects and Either I Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Senior Landscape Architect or Senior Landscape Architect, Caltrans. Or II Experience: Broad and extensive experience (more than five years) in the planning and design of landscape architectural projects, at least two years of which shall have been comparable in level of responsibility to a Senior Landscape Architect, Caltrans, in the California state service. and Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in landscape architecture. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) Examination Information: This examination will utilize an evaluation of each candidate's experience and education (E&E) compared to a standard developed from the Class Specification. For this reason, it is especially important that each candidate take special care in accurately and completely filling out his or her State application (STD List all experience relevant to the "Minimum Qualifications". This examination will not establish a civil service list; therefore, candidates will not have the ability to transfer their eligibility to other departments.
