Job Overview The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the engineering and maintenance team in a high-volume commercial laundry facility. This role ensures all laundry processing equipment, utilities, and building systems are maintained in optimal working condition to support uninterrupted production. The Chief Engineer plays a key role in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, capital improvements, compliance, and team development. Key Responsibilities Preventive and Corrective Maintenance: Develop, implement, and oversee preventive maintenance programs for washers, dryers, tunnel systems, ironers, folders, boilers, air compressors, conveyors, HVAC, and other systems. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control systems to minimize downtime. Ensure timely repair and resolution of equipment failures. Team Leadership And Supervision Supervise and lead a team of engineers, mechanics, and maintenance technicians. Set daily work priorities, delegate tasks, and provide training and coaching. Create a safety-first culture with adherence to OSHA and company safety policies. Project And Capital Management Manage installation and commissioning of new machinery and capital improvement projects. Maintain documentation for equipment, utilities, permits, and inspections. Collaborate with vendors and contractors as needed. Compliance And Documentation Ensure all equipment and utilities meet health, safety, and environmental regulations. Maintain maintenance logs, records of inspections, and documentation of repair work. Support internal and external audits as required (e.g., OSHA, city inspections, insurance reviews). Energy And Utility Management Monitor energy consumption and propose efficiency improvements. Oversee boilers, chillers, water softeners, and air systems to ensure consistent performance. Qualifications 5+ years of engineering experience in an industrial or commercial laundry or similar environment. 1+ years of supervisory or management experience. Technical Skills In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Familiarity with industrial laundry equipment such as tunnels, ironers, and stackers. Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Other Competencies Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to emergency situations. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance management software (CMMS). Bi-lingual preferred Work Environment Physical work involving standing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Exposure to heat, humidity, noise, and chemicals common to laundry facilities. On-call availability required for emergencies or off-hour issues.
