The catering department is housed in the Lory Student Center, a 380,000 square foot facility, where it is the exclusive caterer. The department also strives to be the caterer of choice on campus and in the community. The mission of the Lory Student Center (LSC) is to serve as a student-centered organization at the heart of campus, providing programs and services that create an inclusive community and inspire active, engaged learning. As an auxiliary enterprise within the Division of Student Affairs Engagement & Belonging Area, the LSC is a comprehensive student union recognized nationally as one of the leading university centers. The annual operating budget is approximately $40 million. Nearly 125 full-time career staff and 650 student and hourly staff serve approximately 14,000 people entering the facility on a daily basis and hosts approximately 13,000 events and meetings. Lory Student Center Catering website: Position Summary The LSC Catering Manager has an abiding commitment to the variety of needs within the University community, the active promotion of a safe and welcoming environment, and the development and enhancement of collaborative relationships. The position exists to provide LSC Catering the ability and leadership to be dynamic in the development of the services offered with the variety of events the department serves. Under the general supervision of the Catering Manager, the Catering Service Manager provides the leadership, direction and outstanding customer service for LSC Catering events both on campus and around Fort Collins where services are requested. The position is responsible for engaging with clients, hosting events and ensuring department standards are met, that client expectations are exceeded and that the food, beverage and service aspect of their experience adds value to the clients' event. The Catering Service Manager directly supervises other full-time professional staff as well as CSU student employees. Integral to the Lory Dining Services mission is that the student employee experience is key to student success. All career staff from the department serve as educators to the student employees and help create an environment where the tools they gain will give them experience to enrich their experience at CSU and create complementary value as they prepare for their next chapter after graduating from CSU. Required Job Qualifications Possesses 2 years (24 months) of supervision in a high volume food service environment (i.e. resort, country club, commissary, large scale catering, banqueting, college/university) High School Diploma or (GED) Demonstrated experience coordinating and executing multiple catered events daily Preferred Job Qualifications Experience training staff within a customer service industry Experience working events that contained alcohol service Possesses a current ServSafe Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification or equivalent Possesses a degree from an accredited college, university or academic institution with preference for a major or minor emphasizing business, hospitality or a related field Possesses or has possessed a current ServSafe Alcohol certification or equivalent 3 years (36 months) demonstrated experience serving banquets Demonstrated experience with menu management and/or inventory management software Demonstrated commitment to customer service Demonstrated record of success supervising management personnel in multi-level reporting relationships Demonstrated interpersonal skills including experience with one-on-one interactions, working on a team, and interacting with a broad range of constituents (students, faculty/staff, alumni, community members, private sector, donors, hosts, public entities, etc.) Essential Duties Job Duty Category Personnel Management Duty/Responsibility Development and implementation of onboarding, training and scheduling processes, as well as materials for new hires Directly and indirectly supervise staff by delegating appropriate tasks, checking event presentation, and maintaining service timelines Coordinate and participate in timely administration of annual employee evaluations. Counsels, determines employee performance objectives, issues corrective action and recommends salary adjustments and other personnel actions Creates and maintains a positive work environment where all employees are valued and recognized for their contributions Continue to evaluate and make improvements to the student employee model that includes professional development, mentorship, and adding valuable skills to their experience working in LSC Catering Seeks out and explores opportunities for cross training across the department and the LSC to create efficiencies, create position awareness throughout the catering process and reduce the stress of identified single points of failure Creatively identify and support ways to prioritize professional development into work schedules, and lead by example Percentage Of Time 45 Job Duty Category Customer Service & Event Execution Duty/Responsibility Exemplify and train the importance of, and standards for excellent customer interaction through delivery and service of ordered catering Demonstrate and train staff of the importance of excellent customer service through department standards and customer engagement. Evaluate and act on customer feedback provided in-person and through event survey data.\ Ensure use of communication technology including building radios, email and catering cell phone to quickly respond to guests needs Greet clients at events and be a department representative for addressing questions or customer concerns Ensure accurate development and display of catering food signage, and supplied marketing collateral Communicates effectively in-person with staff as well as through written communication to give staff confidence and a level of comfort in performing their roles. Develops effective relationships, collaboration and communication practices with other departments during planning and event execution Facilitates pre-event discussions with scheduled staff to recognize and reinforce cores and any abnormal event requests. Assign responsibilities, stations and coordinate the timing of service Percentage Of Time 30 Job Duty Category Procurement & Inventory Management Duty/Responsibility Interpret service orders to assess food, beverage, and supplies needs, and place timely orders. Maintain proper secure storage, and rotation of product, ensuring quality and control Perform physical monthly inventory counts to submit for accounting period closures, assist with inventory audits Collaborate with Catering Manager on investments that will improve the service, presentation, or merchandising of the products and services that LSC Catering offers Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty Category Food & Safety Compliance Duty/Responsibility Oversee the updates, modernization and relevance for customer facing signs at events that communicate food allergens and dietary restrictive options Determines LSC Catering service standards surrounding food safety and ensures service staff is trained and knowledgeable of applicable Larimer County regulations Maintain current ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification and identify other key staff that need to be certified in order to be compliant with Colorado regulations.
