Banquet Captain

Job Summary: The Banquet Captain at the Peoria Marriott Pere Marquette is responsible for leading and coordinating banquet events to ensure seamless execution and exceptional guest experiences. This role supervises banquet staff, ensures proper event setup and service, and maintains the highest level of Marriott brand standards. The Banquet Captain acts as the key liaison between clients, the banquet team, and hotel leadership, ensuring every detail of weddings, conferences, and special events is delivered flawlessly. Key Responsibilities: Lead and supervise banquet servers, bartenders, and housemen to ensure smooth operations throughout events. Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and confirm all details with the Banquet Manager, Culinary Team, and Sales/Catering. Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate event details, assignments, and service expectations. Oversee setup, service, and breakdown of events, ensuring compliance with BEO specifications and Marriott standards. Provide hands-on support during events, assisting staff with service needs and resolving any issues promptly. Act as the primary point of contact for meeting planners and event organizers during functions. Inspect banquet spaces before, during, and after events for cleanliness, proper setup, and equipment condition. Train, mentor, and coach banquet staff to deliver polished, professional service consistent with the Marriott brand. Monitor inventory levels of linens, china, glassware, and equipment, and report needs to the Banquet Manager. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations. Support hotel leadership by providing feedback on team performance and operational efficiency. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Previous banquet or food & beverage supervisory experience required (hotel or large event experience strongly preferred). Strong knowledge of banquet service techniques, food & beverage etiquette, and Marriott brand standards. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Flexible schedule with availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. and stand/walk for extended periods.
