Job Description
This is a high-impact role focused on refactoring, optimizing, and migrating critical applications to the AWS commercial cloud in support of NOAA’s cloud-first strategy. This position is ideal for engineers with a strong full stack development background and experience working with AWS services in secure, high-availability environments. You will be contributing to the development and optimization of cloud-native applications that directly support National Weather Service’s life-saving mission.
Key Responsibilities
Refactor and optimize legacy applications for performance and scalability in the AWS cloud.
Develop and maintain both back-end and front-end components of mission-critical applications.
Ensure seamless integration with NOAA’s enterprise systems, including data lakes, APIs, and cloud-native platforms.
Conduct application testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software developers, cloud engineers, QA analysts, and government stakeholders.
Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices for continuous deployment and monitoring.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in full stack development.
Strong experience with at least one back-end language (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js) and one front-end framework (e.g., React, Angular).
Experience working with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, and S3.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Git).
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Certified Developer or Solutions Architect certification.
Prior experience supporting federal government cloud migration projects or systems integration efforts.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Jenkins, Terraform, CloudFormation).
Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Soft Skills
Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
