POSITION OVERVIEW: The MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Specialist plays a critical role in identifying, planning, and implementing academic interventions to support students who are performing below grade level. This role is responsible for delivering targeted, data-driven support—primarily through small group or pull-out instruction—and for closely monitoring student progress. The MTSS Specialist collaborates with teachers, support staff, and the special education department to ensure early identification of needs, the effective delivery of tiered interventions, and clear documentation of outcomes to inform further supports or referrals. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional Intervention & Student Support Provide small group and one-on-one pull-out academic interventions for students requiring Tier 2 and Tier 3 support. Design and implement evidence-based instructional strategies that accelerate student learning in targeted skill areas (e.g., reading, math, writing). Use diagnostic and progress monitoring tools to tailor interventions to individual student needs. Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring Conduct regular assessments and collect data to monitor the effectiveness of interventions. Maintain detailed records of student progress, instructional adjustments, and outcomes. Use data to determine when students no longer need intervention or require more intensive support. Analyze schoolwide MTSS data to identify trends, gaps, and areas of need. Collaboration & Communication Maintain consistent communication with classroom teachers to share updates on student progress and collaborate on next steps. Participate in grade-level and MTSS meetings to review data and determine appropriate intervention strategies. Serve as a liaison to the special education department, providing data and recommendations that inform referrals and eligibility decisions. Collaborate with related service providers and specialists (e.g., reading specialists, speech therapists, counselors) to ensure coordinated support. System Building & Support Support the implementation of the school's MTSS framework with fidelity. Assist in the development and refinement of schoolwide intervention protocols and processes. Provide professional development or guidance to staff on MTSS practices and effective intervention strategies. Help ensure documentation and compliance in line with school, district, and state MTSS guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required; Master's degree preferred. Valid teaching certification (Reading Specialist, Special Education, or related certification a plus). Demonstrated experience implementing academic interventions and progress monitoring. Strong knowledge of MTSS frameworks, intervention programs, and data analysis tools. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
