ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares exam and treatment rooms for examination, escorts patients to applicable rooms, and assists physician with examinations as necessary.
Interviews patients, determines the reason for visit, measures vital signs, collects and records applicable encounter data.
Accurately and completely records pertinent medical information in patients' electronic charts.
Operates medical equipment such as electrocardiograph (EKG), Holter monitor, bone densitometer (DXA), and other equipment to administer routine CLIA-waived laboratory diagnostic tests.
Gives injections or treatments within scope of training and performs routine laboratory tests.
Clears "jelly beans" from login account timely and accurately.
Schedules consult and procedure appointments at outside and in-house offices; acquires precertification of applicable procedures and completes special medical and insurance forms.
Assists providers with management and processing incoming and outgoing medical documents.
Calls patients, pharmacies, and other physician offices to relay pertinent information. Generates telephone encounters as appropriate.
Assists other MAs or departments within RDC during periods of low or completed personal workload.
Works rotation at the Medical Message Desk and/or clinic lab performing CLIA-waived lab tests.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Proficiency in taking vital signs, administering injections, and performing phlebotomy.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
Education: High School diploma – required and Associates degree - preferred.
License/Certifications: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.
Language Skills: English proficient required
Other Skills:
Previous experience working in a primary care physician office.
Experience with specific EHR systems used by the practice. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
