Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Dirt and Paving Superintendent to oversee and manage all aspects of earthwork, grading, and asphalt or concrete paving operations on TXDOT construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a comprehensive understanding of construction processes, and the ability to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining a positive work environment. Key Responsibilities Crew Management: Supervises, coordinates, and schedules construction workers, delegating tasks and resolving performance issues. Project Oversight: Oversees both dirt work (excavation, grading, compaction) and paving operations (asphalt or concrete). Equipment & Materials: Manages the maintenance and operation of heavy machinery, including paving equipment, and tracks material usage. Safety & Quality: Ensures Company project safety standards are met and monitors the quality of workmanship and materials throughout the project. Reporting & Communication: Maintains daily logs, prepares production and cost reports, and communicates with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. Budget & Schedule: Assists with budget management, tracks costs, and ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of dirt work processes (excavation, grade work, surveying) and various paving techniques and materials. Equipment Proficiency: Hands-on experience with heavy machinery and paving equipment like pavers, rollers, and milling machines. Leadership & Management: Proven ability to lead and motivate crews, manage project logistics, and solve problems effectively. Communication: Professional communication skills to interact with various stakeholders, including clients, project managers, and workers. Skills Proven experience in dirt moving and paving operations within the construction industry. Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication skills to effectively manage teams. In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices. Ability to read blueprints, plans, and specifications accurately. Proficient in the use of construction equipment related to dirt moving and paving tasks. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Attention to detail with a focus on delivering high-quality results consistently.
