Position and Reporting

Reporting to the President & CEO, New Jersey Community Capital is seeking to hire a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to act as a true business partner to the CEO, the Board Directors and the Senior Management Team. The CFO will also represent New Jersey Community Capital in the broader business and regulatory community in a highly visible role and provide key communications to external stakeholders. Responsibilities

Drive financial success through organic growth, segment and market expansion and acquisition opportunities. Manage the fiscal matters of the organization including the annual audit, budgeting, capital management, cash management and liquidity, internal and external financial reporting, regulatory reporting, resource development, and investor relations functions. Set appropriate financial strategies for the organization and its affiliates to optimize financial resources and manage risk. Direct the organization\'s fiscal planning and accounting practices, ensuring integrity of reporting and optimization of resources. Serve as a member of the senior management team and work closely with the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board of Directors. Demonstrate high energy and leadership across multiple priorities, with outstanding communications and interpersonal skills (particularly presentation skills). Ability to work across functions and a deep understanding of business and finance. Pivotal Experience & Expertise

The CFO will be an experienced finance leader with at least 10 years of broad experience, ideally beginning in audit and/or tax, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. They will ideally have experience managing multiple areas of the finance function (i.e. accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex non-profit with multiple funding sources including government (federal and state) contracts and an affiliate structure with diverse program areas. An undergraduate degree in finance or accounting is ideal; an advanced degree (MBA), CFA designation, and/or accounting certification (CPA, CMA, CA) is preferred. 10 years\' experience as a CFO/CIO Accounting Executive or equivalent, preferably in a complex organization with multiple affiliates and a track record of escalating knowledge of investment mechanisms; experience with a large CDFI, bank, accounting firm, or social impact fund desired. Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies. Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting. Experience working with information technology staff or consultants to manage finance and accounting software packages. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills. Stable personality; willing to receive constructive criticism and demand performance from themselves and colleagues. Planning, Policy, and External Relations

Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets. Develop financial business plans and forecasts (how often/when). Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team and Treasurer of New Jersey Community Capital’s Board of Directors. Engage senior management to develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections. Review these plans with the appropriate committees of the Board of Directors. Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc. Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations. Accounting and Administration

Oversee the Finance department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions; supervise New Jersey Community Capital’s finance staff. Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and New Jersey Community Capital’s Board of Directors; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements. Serve as the organization\'s primary liaison with outside auditors and finance committees; lead the audit planning process, significant accounting policies and their adoption, and financial statement preparation and disclosure. Review tax returns prepared by outside accountants prior to company officer sign-off. Work with accountants on tax planning. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions. Co-create a strategy around co-investment partnerships: identify highly aligned investors, lenders, and donors that complement New Jersey Community Capital’s integrated economic development offerings. Cultivate relationships that result in sourcing new investors and a productive co-investment community. Serve on the core team working with other senior managers on the strategic planning process for New Jersey Community Capital. Manage and update scenarios in New Jersey Community Capital’s 5-year financial model, in support of the strategic plan. Serve on the core team representing investment team needs for impact assessments and project management. Conduct market assessment and competitive analyses to advance New Jersey Community Capital’s positioning as a social finance/impact investing leader. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions. Build a pipeline of investment opportunities by impact theme and asset class. Conduct due diligence and full analysis of selecting new investment opportunities; draft recommendation memos to present to the CEO and Board of Directors. Manage all elements of a transaction from due diligence through closing. Manage existing investments by reviewing quarterly reports and statements from managers, participating in LP meetings and calls, and tracking the monthly performance of materially significant investments. Review data on investments for accuracy and write brief summaries for quarterly philanthropic services client statements. Partner with New Jersey Community Capital’s Finance teams to ensure accurate tracking of investments, reporting, and information sharing internally. Seniorities and Employment
