Firebird Community Arts (FCA) is a nonprofit organization located in the Near West Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois with a mission to empower and connect people through the healing practice of glassblowing and ceramics. The organization serves those who have been impacted by structural or individual trauma, including violently-injured youth and formerly incarcerated individuals, as well as serves Chicago Public School students on the South and West sides. FCA is at a critical growth juncture and is seeking an experienced Development Director to join the Executive Leadership team and be responsible for the developing and implementing the overall resource generation strategy for the organization. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build out the annual fund strategy, as well as provide support to the current capital campaign being led by the executive leadership team. Development Director Responsibilities Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with executive leadership to further develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with FCA’s mission and goals, identifying and pursuing diverse funding sources such as grants, corporate partnerships, individual donors, and other fundraising events, efforts or earned revenue streams. Fundraising Growth: In coordination with finance, programs, and leadership teams, set and achieve annual fundraising targets with measured year over year growth. Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Cultivate and steward relationships with existing and potential donors, sponsors, and partners. Maintain a donor database and track engagement to ensure a strong donor pipeline. Organizational Representation: Represent FCA, its mission and values with external audiences including donors, communities, and private and public sector collaborators. Prospect Research & Grant Management: Research, identify, and apply for grants from public and private sources. Manage grant administration, track reporting requirements, and monitor compliance to secure and maintain funding. Further develop organizational systems for grant management. Financial Oversight: Work closely with executive leadership and finance to develop and manage budgets related to fundraising activities. Monitor and report on fundraising progress regularly. Develop fundraising goals year over year to align with organizational growth. Collaborative Partnerships: Build and maintain partnerships with other arts organizations, institutions, and community stakeholders to advance the mission of FCA and create new opportunities for collaborative fundraising and mutual support. Work with the Programs team to create new opportunities for collaborative fundraising. Event Planning: Organize and oversee fundraising events and campaigns, including donor appreciation events, exhibitions, and other initiatives that engage the community and raise awareness about the work of FCA. Staff Supervision: Manage a team of development staff to successfully implement Development Strategy; including supporting performance, coaching and developing staff, and building a healthy team environment. Development Director Qualifications 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising; preferably in the arts or culture sector 3+ years of experience supervising and developing staff 3+ years of experience planning, organizing and executing fundraising events Experience in capital fundraising, preferred B.A. in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, English or similarly relevant fields Preferred, not required Knowledgeable on the development and management of government grants including compliance, USG rules and regulations Managerial experience Proven track record of successful fundraising and development experience Demonstrable with project management and managing multiple projects/initiatives at once Excellent interpersonal and written/spoken communication skills Experience cultivating new and maintaining current donor relationships and partners Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and partners Strong knowledge of prospect research, grant writing, and grant management Highly organized and detail-oriented Ability to work as part of a team and across departments Ability to work independently and proactively To Apply: Please submit a cover letter and resume to breanna@firebirdcommunityarts.org.
