The organization combines art and science to promote environmental stewardship, conducting extensive research and creating impactful projects that advance marine restoration. Role Description This is a part-time, on-site role for an Outreach Program Coordinator located in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the Reef Discovery Center and ORAI's new facility. In this role you will be a key part of ORAI's educational mission. The Outreach Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning and executing community outreach programs, organizing events, and developing training materials. This role involves frequent communication with community members and stakeholders, coordinating and implementing program activities, and assisting in the development of new outreach initiatives to advance ORAI's mission. The Reef Discovery Center and ORAI's new facility in Broward County is dedicated to public education, reef restoration, and marine research. Our programs will connect people with Florida's reefs, inspiring a new generation of ocean stewards and expanding the regional capacity for coral restoration. Our Coordinator will have the opportunity to innovate hands-on STEM programs and outreach, making a tangible impact on local marine and reef resilience. Key Responsibilities Education Programs : Develop, design, and lead interactive lessons, workshops, and field activities about coral reefs for schools, camps, and the public. - Community Outreach : Staff public events and volunteer activities with exhibits and hands-on demos. Engage audiences of all ages to raise awareness and build and maintain partnerships with schools, nonprofits, environmental groups, and government agencies to expand our outreach network. Estimated 15 events per year+ - Program Logistics : Manage scheduling, materials, and resources for education and outreach events. Develop outreach materials (presentations, curriculum, social media content) and maintain inventories of educational supplies. Assist with volunteer and internship coordination as needed. - Support Mission-Driven Initiatives : Work with the science and education teams to align outreach with coral restoration projects. Contribute to grant applications and reports by providing outreach data and success stories. Help evaluate program impact and suggest improvements. - Ambassador for ORAI : Represent ORAI at community meetings and public speaking engagements. Promote our mission, inspiring people to get involved, become ocean stewards, and take pride in Florida's coral reef tract, whenever you interact with the public. Qualifications Strong skills in communication and community outreach Ability to translate scientific concepts (especially coral reef ecology) into engaging learning experiences Skilled at establishing and sustaining community partnerships Experience in event planning and training Self-motivated and creative, solutions-oriented with a positive, flexible attitude Proficient in program development Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Passion for marine conservation and familiarity with environmental issues 2+ years of experience in environmental education, marine science outreach, or nonprofit program coordination. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Communications, or a related field
