Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides supportive services that help maintain and strengthen a resident's independence and dignity in a family-like atmosphere. The PCA safeguards the living environment that may be disrupted by illness, social maladjustment, or other challenges. The PCA is responsible to the PCA Supervisor and Administrator, and in their absence, to the Administrator's designee. Qualifications: - High School diploma or GED equivalent - Ability to read, write, and speak English - Experience in group or residential settings preferred - Evidence of good physical and mental health - Ability to bend and lift to 25 lbs. - Willingness to work scheduled shifts and flexible hours - Genuine interest in and caring attitude toward residents - Respect for all residents regardless of age, race, religion, nationality, or mental status - Openness to supervision, training, and growth - Warm, outgoing personality - Respect for confidentiality in all assignments - Willingness to abide by Roxborough Home for Women personnel policies Knowledge and Abilities: - Assist in lifting and transferring residents - Interact effectively with residents, families, and co-workers - Work independently and handle emergencies calmly - Manage time efficiently - Record and maintain accurate documentation - Follow procedures as directed by supervisory staff, nurses, consultants, or therapists - Make significant observations regarding residents' conditions and report appropriately - Apply basic medical knowledge and follow medication policies and procedures - Demonstrate dependability, sound judgment, and cooperative teamwork - Handle families with courtesy and diplomacy Responsibilities: - Assist residents with bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, dressing, and feeding as needed - Serve and assist with meals, including special diet requests - Cue residents follow daily schedules and appointments - Support residents with mobility, exercise programs, and activities - Maintain cleanliness of resident rooms and common areas - Complete resident laundry as needed - Report medical concerns to Administrator, log them appropriately, and notify family/physician as directed - Complete communication logs, incident reports, and maintain resident medical files - Assist with ordering, administering, and documenting medications per policy - Consult with pharmacy or physician regarding treatments - Attend community outings and transport residents assigned - Participate in activities, meetings, and training sessions as required - Assist physicians and display professionalism in interactions with healthcare providers - Follow proper procedures for medication administration and documentation - Always ensure secure storage of medications - Support residents with shopping lists and personal needs - Provide insulin injections and other treatments per policy - Participating in resident council meetings and performance improvement activities - Assist in any area as needed, including ADLs, meals, cleaning, laundry, and activities - Perform additional duties as assigned by the Administrator or Supervisor Working Conditions: This position requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the residents and facilities. Accountability: The PCA reports directly to the PCA Supervisor and Administrator. In their absence, accountability is to the Administrator's designee/Executive Director.
