Summer Associate

The Summer Associate role provides you with the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Clark organization and construction industry. With the full investment of Clark leaders and teams, you will develop a strong foundation in various aspects of construction, including project development, project management, field engineering and supervision, and business operations. Responsibilities include: Project Delivery - Project Management Working in project management gives you an understanding of the day-to-day and long-term business and financial management associated with construction projects. Responsibilities include: Financial Management - Review gross billings, track change orders and subcontractor requisitions Document Control - Managing the submittals, RFI, and material tracking process Trade Partner Success - Become a trusted advisor to our subcontractors to plan for a successful field installation Project Delivery - Field Management Working in field management will allow you to learn the building process, assist in laying the groundwork for projects and coordinate the sequence of work on a project site. Responsibilities include: Quality Control and Safety - Monitoring trade workers with emphasis on quality of work and safety Project Schedule - Assisting with schedule management and site logistics Critical Thinking - Resolving unforeseen challenges within installation, schedule, and trade partner coordination Project Development Working in project development, you will learn how Clark acquires new work, develops strategies for meeting project goals and maintains relationships with clients. Departments within project development include budgeting, estimating, and purchasing. Responsibilities include: Budgeting - Reviewing initial contract documents, soliciting and providing preliminary evaluations of subcontractor bids Estimating - Performing quantity takeoffs, preparing the overall bid proposal and quantify labor and material prices required for projects Purchasing - Collaborate to execute subcontractor agreements, review scope of work and manage relationships with the subcontractor community Basic Qualifications Currently attending university and working to complete an undergraduate or master's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field Genuine interest and passion for the construction industry Preferred Qualifications Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and driven by challenge Solution-oriented problem solver with a hands-on and team-oriented attitude Able to manage multiple, competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence supervisors, peers, and external partners Summer Associate Program Overview Our summer associate program provides a realistic view of what it's like to work at Clark through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Our goal is to provide you with countless opportunities for learning, growth, and career development, and we are committed to delivering an exceptional experience both professionally and personally. In addition to gaining valuable hands-on experience, you will have the opportunity to build relationships throughout the organization through activities such as socials, jobsite tours, community service, and company events. The summer associate program is a full-time program (minimum of 40 hours per week) that starts in late May or early June and typically runs about 8-10 weeks in length. Summer Associates are eligible and encouraged to work overtime during their time at Clark. Clark offers positions at its offices and jobsites throughout the country. The work environment and requirements described below are representative of those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The Physical Side of the Role: This is an active, hands-on role. You can expect to be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You'll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work. The role does include desk time in the office that may require prolonged periods of sitting for tasks like computer work, document review, and meetings. Your Work Environment: You'll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels, and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and with the fast-paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels.
