Development Accountant
Full-Time | Hybrid (2 days in office) - San Mateo, CA Temp-to-Perm Opportunity Overview: Seeking an experienced Development Accountant to manage the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of 10+ development projects, including at least 6 active construction projects. This role supports the accounting needs of new developments and newly placed-in-service properties, ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) regulations. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and submit timely loan draw requests. Manage monthly close for development and construction-stage properties. Perform bank reconciliations, accruals, loan interest calculations, and financial statement preparation. Track project costs, budgets, and contracts using job cost modules and prepare variance analyses. Support external audits and tax filings by preparing schedules and documentation. Interpret financial and partnership documents, including regulatory and loan agreements. Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams across accounting, development, and asset/property management. Ensure accurate inter-entity transactions and surplus distribution calculations. Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed. Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration (required). CPA preferred; GAAP knowledge required; LIHTC experience a plus. Minimum 3 years of general ledger accounting experience. Experience with real estate development, construction, or property rehab accounting. Familiarity with regulatory, loan, and partnership agreements. Proficiency in Excel and enterprise accounting software (RealPage experience preferred). Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
