Commodity Buyer
Responsible for the strategic procurement of productive materials for the assigned commodities. Conducts value analysis in order to develop alternative sources resulting in lower total landed cost for purchased parts while maintaining the quality and service requirements. Works closely with engineering, production planning, finance, and other key functional areas to ensure that requirements to support corporate objectives are adhered to by suppliers. Leads the team to the resolution of recurrent quality and delivery problems for assigned suppliers. Develops an effective, professional business relationship with suppliers and treats all suppliers fairly and equitable in accordance to Strattec Security Corporation Code of Conduct. Manages supplier relationships involving multi-year supplier relationships in alignment to the overall corporate goals. Engages in spend analysis for the development of detailed strategies for commodities in charge to deliver year over year cost savings including market analysis, industry trends in pricing and supply risk management. Responsible for achieving annual mass production cost improvement and inventory reduction goals. Responsible for the preparation, follow up, and closure of Requests for Quotations and leads screening and supplier selection process and approvals in a timely manner. Plans, organizes, and communicates commodity strategy development to cross-functional teams including preferred materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers. Negotiates and executes supply Long Term Agreements (LTAs) and buffer stocking agreements in alignment to Strattec Security Corporation corporate goals. Responsible for tracking and securing on time responses from the Purchasing organization to the assigned Product Line inquiries including: RFQs, RFIs, change management, and overall external supplier's related inquiries. Develops sourcing strategies for new parts in agreement with the Product Line engineering team and purchasing commodity buyer(s) (including all commodities). In charge of supplier negotiations related to change management including engineering driven changes. Maintains accurate records of available capacity and supplier tooling condition for commodities in charge. Travel domestically and internationally as required up to 15%. Qualifications: Must be highly organized. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have proven negotiation skills, with implemented cost savings. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Team player and ability to work under pressure and to make decisions in a timely manner. Education and/or experience: Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering or related experience as demonstrated. Minimum of five years of strategic purchasing experience as it relates to supplier relations, sourcing, and contract management. Automotive purchasing experience preferred. Language: Primary English/Spanish encouraged. Supervisory responsibilities: None. Computer abilities: EXCEL, WORD, POWER POINT, AS400.
