Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.
Position Summary
The part-time Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for the Brooklyn Hub. The Receptionist will be responsible for welcoming visitors by greeting them in person or virtually and answering or referring inquiries. The Receptionist must be bilingual (English/Yiddish).
Responsibilities
- Greet, welcome, direct, and announce visitors in a welcoming and respectful manner.
- Answer, screen, and forward any incoming phone calls while providing basic information as needed.
- Receive and distribute daily mail, deliveries, and couriers.
- Maintain building security by following established procedures and controlling access.
- Handle clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, mailing, collating, and faxing.
- Monitor and sort messages from the general email inbox via outlook.
- Provide support for special events and projects.
- Assist with data collection and entry.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
- Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise.
- Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure.
- Strong customer service mindset with a helpful and responsive approach.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tasks and documentation.
- Flexibility and adaptability when priorities shift.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team.
Skill and Education
- High school degree or equivalent (required).
- Prior experience in an office or customer-facing role (preferred).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Comfortable using office equipment such as copiers, printers, and phone systems.
- Familiarity with communication platforms such as Outlook, Teams, or Zoom.
- Strong organizational and data entry skills.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: $25 - $30 per hour
Benefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits; 403(b); plus pro-rated vacation, sick leave and holidays.
