PUPIL TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, assists in the supervision of physically handicapped and non-ambulatory children while they are being transported to and from school. Performs related work as required. Pupil Transportation Assistants are scheduled to work at least 27.5 hours/week, and work 30 hours/week on average.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the supervision of physically handicapped, non-ambulatory and students with severe behavioral issues during the bus ride and any necessary transfers; maintains safety; assists in securing wheelchairs and safety restraints; assists with operating the lift; monitors students for seizures or breathing difficulties; assists bus driver in medical emergency situations; keeps track of student possessions; maintains discipline; and assists in evacuation of students during emergency or practice drills.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Any experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge of: Physically handicapped and non-ambulatory children's requirements, habits and characteristics; basic discipline and behavior modification techniques; and first aid CPR, and CPI.
Skill at: Learning to recognize and deal effectively with physically challenged and non-ambulatory students' various medical emergencies; learning assertive discipline techniques; learning to evacuate physically handicapped and non-ambulatory students from a bus in an emergency situation; learning to secure wheelchairs and safety restraints; lifting and/or carrying large, heavy (up to and including 100 pounds) and awkward people or objects; kneeling, bending, and/or stooping down to assist students; reading, writing and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance; working effectively in a stressful situation; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification. CPR Certification required.

Applicants can be expected to work between 27.5 to 40 hours per week as needed. Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

positionsare assignments for a limited duration. These positions can be grant-funded and are contingent upon continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising.

Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change. Your job offer is conditional until a report is returned from the FBI and Nevada Department of Public Safety that meets the standards of WCSD for employment purposes.
