Surgical Instrumentation Specialist

Responsible for pulling surgical instrumentation and supplies for patient/procedure-specific surgical cases. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Communicates regularly with operating room staff to ensure that proper supplies for each case are picked and delivered as needed. Completes surgical case cart and surgical equipment staging activities. Conducts case cart and instrument return and restocking activities. Conducts equipment cleaning and return activities. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Maintains adequate knowledge of surgical procedures, supplies, ordering, and product placement. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the MedStar organization. Responsible for preparing and delivering complete case carts from preference cards for patient/procedure-specific surgical cases, including add-on case carts according to departmental standards to the Operating Room. Restocks supply carts in designated areas utilizing inventory control methods. Serves as a liaison between clinicians and supply chain to ensure coordination of necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment between OR and Sterile Processing. Tracks and monitors availability of equipment and instruments for procedures in collaboration with the members of the OR Team throughout the day. Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. Education High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent required Experience 1-2 years related experience in clinical or sterile processing setting; required Experience working with computerized inventory management systems preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to perform mathematic calculations including addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division. Verbal and written communications. Ability to read, comprehend, and write the English language. Basic computer skills preferred. This position has a hiring range of $18 - $28.73
