Part Time - Bus Driver/Transportation Specialist Live Oak School District, Santa Cruz, CA. Welcome to Live Oak School District! The district serves approximately 1,700 students in three elementary schools, one middle school, one K-8 independent charter school, and one alternative school. The student population is 50% Hispanic, 31% White, 19% Other; 30% English learners; 60% socioeconomically disadvantaged. Responsibilities
A thorough knowledge and understanding of safe bus driving practices. Understand bus operation and safety sufficiently to recognize problems and take appropriate action. Understand State laws, rules, regulations and Education Code sections pertaining to school bus operations and pupil transportation. Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs; proper usage of mechanics tools and procedures. Know and understand how to apply first aid practices. Maintain good communication skills. Note:
DISTRICT WILL TRAIN AND CERTIFY. Licenses and Certificates: Requires valid Commercial Driver's License, medical examination card, valid California Special Driver Certificate endorsements for school bus drivers and First Aid Certificate. Successful completion of 20 hours of classroom instruction related to skills and safety requirements for driving a school bus and successful completion of 20 hours of instruction behind the wheel of a school bus is required. Qualifications
High School diploma or the equivalent, plus specialized or on-the-job training in at least two skilled trades for two years (as indicated in the education requirements). Two years of on-the-job training as a vehicle mechanic (as indicated). Completion of Department of Transportation (DOT) Brake Inspector Training. Physical Abilities
Arm-hand and leg-foot dexterity to drive a bus. Visual acuity, depth perception, and vision sufficient to read printed materials. Ability to sit for extended periods; hearing sufficient to monitor traffic and communicate with students; mobility to perform duties. Ability to lift passenger ambulatory aids such as wheelchairs and platforms; should be able to lift 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be considered. Education and Experience
