We are seeking a highly versatile and proactive Apparel Merchandiser who can contribute across the full spectrum of the apparel business—from design input and product development to merchandising strategy and planning. The ideal candidate is both creative and analytical, with the ability to translate consumer insights and market trends into commercially successful products. This role requires close collaboration with designers, planners, product developers, and suppliers to deliver collections that are on-trend, cost-effective, and aligned with brand strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Product Ideation
Collaborate with the head of product to develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, and product assortments.
Provide market intelligence on trends, colors, fabrics, and silhouettes.
Ensure designs balance creativity with commercial viability and customer needs and domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Work on sourcing new fabric for the brand and work closely with mills to negotiate cost, lead-time, MOQs, etc.
Merchandising Strategy
Build seasonal range plans and product assortments aligned with business objectives.
Identify gaps and opportunities across categories to maximize sales and profitability.
Define product mix, pricing strategies, and margin targets.
Maintain merchandising tools.
Planning & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with planners to forecast demand and guide assortment planning.
Partner with product developers to ensure quality, fit, cost, and timelines are met.
Partner with product developers and provide them with targets at style level.
Market & Business Insights
Analyze sales performance, consumer trends, and competitor activity. Use insights to influence design direction and business decisions.
Recommend in-season adjustments to optimize assortment performance.
Process & Execution
Oversee merchandising presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Apparel Design, Business, or related field.
5–6 years of experience in apparel merchandising. Plus would be if have some years of experience as product developer too.
Strong sense of fashion trends, consumer behavior, and market dynamics.
Excellent eye for product design, color, and fabric selection.
Strong analytical and numerical skills for forecasting and range planning.
Ability to balance creativity with business acumen.
Proficiency in MS Excel, PLM systems, and design tools (Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop preferred).
Strong communication and negotiation skills for cross-functional and supplier collaboration.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Must work in SF office at least 3 days/week.
