Primary Responsibilities The Highway & Roads Market Sector Director role is part of HDR’s matrix management structure and drives our business. The H&R market sector is the largest in the company, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally, and includes clients that own and operate highways, toll roads, city, town and local roads, and bridge structures. HDR provides a broad range of professional services, with primary offerings including: bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning and tolling services. The role requires an understanding of H&R clients, their funding and revenue streams, and their existence within state, federal, and local governmental structures. Primary responsibilities are divided into three areas: Market leadership and business development (approximately 70%) Staff development (20%) Support to Operations (10%) Responsibilities include setting HDR’s strategy for expanding services in the market sector, partnering with region and area leadership to implement growth initiatives, and developing staff to achieve market sector goals. The Market Sector Director will coordinate business strategies with business group leadership, operations, client managers, and practice group leaders, reporting to the Transportation Business Group (TBG) Market Strategy Director and maintaining regular communication with regional leadership to execute strategic growth and operating plans. HDR maintains contracts with state Departments of Transportation and numerous local authorities, with expansion plans to Canada, the UK, the Middle East and Australia. HDR’s H&R professionals engage with clients to provide expertise in bridge and highway design, traffic and transportation planning, design, construction management, and HDR services including advisory, environmental, strategic communications, facilities and more. The Market Sector Director supports area business development and client management while defining and implementing growth initiatives, coordinating best practices and delivering quality professional services, and promoting HDR’s brand. This role engages a wide spectrum of employees and reinforces HDR’s image with clients and markets. Business Development Responsibilities

– Lead the organization in market assessment, determine HDR’s best business approach in the market, and support areas to win contracts. Focused on the respective market sector, the Director also collaborates with cross-sectors and other TBG market sectors. The Director leads an organization aimed at gaining market share and interfaces with local area client development programs and area BD leads to: Oversee the creation and implementation of strategic vision and direction for the market sector – aligning technical and professional services with leadership across the firm. Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients within the market sector. Engage in selected projects as Principal-In-Charge. Promote the marketing and delivery of HDR services to clients within the market sector with client managers. Participate as a member of the Transportation Business Group Management Team. Collaborate with Regional Business Group Directors on area goals and market sector initiatives. Drive client development and pursuit processes with client managers and BD leaders. Support strategic pursuits through client relationship development and pursuit activities. Participate in industry associations at a leadership level and model HDR’s values in business and community organizations. Identify key investments (acquisitions and technology) to maintain HDR’s industry leadership. Monitor marketing capabilities and ensure alignment with department goals. Develop relationships with industry counterparts and senior leadership in key client organizations. Lead HDR’s presence with industry organizations in US, Canada, EMEA and APAC (e.g., AASHTO, IBTTA and others). Staff Development Responsibilities

– Lead an organization capable of supporting clients, winning new work, and providing staff growth opportunities. Support area leadership with recruitment of prospective market sector employees. Assume responsibility for Global Market Sector P&L in coordination with local area managers and coordinate work-sharing across departments. Work with business class directors to drive technical excellence and coordinate staffing for project delivery and marketing. Coordinate staffing and recruitment plans for key hires and assist with local hires. Approve all key/strategic hires in the market sector. Participate in Annual Performance Conversations for key market sector leaders. Support to Operations

– Assist Regional Business Group Directors and area managers in delivering professional services for area projects. Key duties include driving client management, monitoring market sector profit and loss, reviewing staff assignments, promoting work-sharing, ensuring project delivery, and supporting QA/QC programs. Monitor market sector performance indicators such as NFE/NFB, profitability, unbilled revenue, AR, and investments; manage workload and promote efficient use of resources. Assist with contract reviews on key projects to ensure risk management, appropriate staffing, quality reviews, and claims resolution. Promote Quality Assurance/Quality Control and disseminate lessons learned.
