Overview
Staff Machine Learning Researcher - Biological Foundational Models We've partnered with a well-funded, venture-backed biotech company based in Boston transforming the world of Biotech through artificial intelligence. Their advanced AI models enable precise control over cellular behavior, accelerating therapy development and driving data-driven improvements. This role focuses on designing and developing foundational models for single-cell RNA sequencing and other high-dimensional biological data. The ideal candidate is a machine learning expert with a strong interest in biology, aiming to contribute to breakthrough research and help build AI infrastructure for next-generation cell therapies. Key Responsibilities
Design, train, and optimize large-scale foundational models for single-cell RNA sequencing and other omics datasets. Collaborate with computational biologists to ensure outputs are biologically interpretable and aligned with scientific goals. Develop deep learning architectures (e.g., transformers) tailored to biological data. Build scalable and distributed training/inference pipelines for trillion-token-scale datasets. Provide mentorship and technical leadership within the ML research team. Required Qualifications
6+ years of experience in machine learning, particularly in deep learning (e.g., transformers) and large-scale data processing. Masters degree or higher in Computer Science, AI, Computational Biology, or a related field. Strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Proven track record of building, optimizing, and deploying large-scale ML models. Experience leading projects from research through to production. Passion for using AI to drive innovation in biology and healthcare. Preferred Qualifications
PhD with a strong publication record in ML or computational biology. Extensive experience in biological modeling, especially single-cell RNA sequencing. Familiarity with reinforcement learning (e.g., RLHF, PPO), diffusion models, or multi-modal ML architectures. Experience working in startups or fast-paced research environments. Lead technical efforts at a mission-driven company pioneering the intersection of AI and biology. Collaborate with a highly skilled, interdisciplinary team at the cutting edge of therapeutic development. Contribute to impactful science aimed at solving major unmet medical needs.
