Job Summary:

The Social Work Intern will support children and families in coping with social, emotional, and environmental challenges within Boys & Girls Club (BGC) programs. This internship provides hands-on experience, mobilizing BGC resources with social work methods and engaging with members in a dynamic, supportive environment. In addition to social work duties, the intern will fulfill responsibilities as a Youth Development Assistant, facilitating a range of activities and ensuring a safe, positive space for all Club members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Social Work Duties Incorporate the nine core social work competencies from the 2015 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) into existing BGC programs. Assist Site Coordinators and Youth Development Assistants with managing and addressing members' behavioral challenges. Provide individual support to members with homework and technology needs. Facilitate program readiness in coordination with Site Coordinators and Youth Development Assistants. Engage with members during physical activities to encourage healthy physical development. Attend one-on-one meetings with the Director of Social Work Interns and Volunteers (DSWIV) for guidance and supervision. Youth Development Duties Plan, implement, and supervise quality programs across various areas such as education, leadership development, health and life skills, arts, sports, and recreation. Provide guidance, mentorship, and role modeling to members, inspiring them in the creative and learning processes. Supervise groups of at least 15 members, ensuring a safe and positive environment for all. Keep accurate records of participants, schedules, and attendance. Assist in serving snacks and perform necessary clerical and housekeeping duties. Ensure member safety during on-site and off-site activities. Attend staff meetings and training sessions to remain informed and updated on Club policies and practices. Perform other duties as assigned. Relationships: Internal: Maintain daily contact with Club staff (full-time, part-time, and volunteers), Club members, and supervisors to provide information, address issues, and ensure program success. External: Engage with community groups, schools, parents, and other stakeholders to foster positive relationships and address concerns as needed. Requirements:

Required Skills: Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and experience addressing behavioral challenges. Ability to lead and manage small groups or individual programs. Proficiency in classroom management skills and methods for maintaining program readiness. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse groups, including youth, families, and team members. Education and Experience: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Social Work or related field, or working towards a Master’s in Social Work. Reporting and Supervision: The Social Work Intern reports to the Director of Social Work Interns and Volunteers (DSWIV), who holds a Master’s in Social Work, and to the Site Coordinator they support. Duties are allocated by the DSWIV and the Site Coordinator.
