Job Description Description: Position Summary: This position has supervisory responsibility in assisting the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent. The primary responsibilities will be supervising the operation and maintenance of the City of Thomasville Wastewater Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant Laboratory. This position will also make recommended process changes to the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent. This position will be responsible for assisting in the training and management of personnel. This position may be required at times to act as the Class I Operator for the treatment plant while the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent is out.

Essential Duties: Assists in the management and supervision of operations and maintenance, laboratory and industrial pretreatment tasks, personnel and budget. Act as the Class I Operator for the treatment plant, as needed. Assist in managing a preventative maintenance checks and services program for the wastewater treatment plant and fleet equipment. Assists in maintaining and completing all records for the wastewater treatment plant. Requsition repairs materials, equipment and lab supplies, as needed. Enforces safety standards and standard operating procedures. Assist in the management of an effective training program for the Wastewater Treatment Department. Manage the operation and maintenance program of the wastewater treatment plant and make emergency repairs, as needed. Supervise and manage the wastewater treatment lab and lab personnel. Interprets laboratory results and makes recommendations to the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent for plant processes and process control adjustments to maintain compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements. Report all potential EPD violations to the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent for review. Assist in planning capital projects and budget. Assist in managing payroll of assigned personnel. Assist in monitoring annual budgetary expenses. Manage the “on-call” schedule and the scheduling of employees. Expected to fill-in and participate in the “on-call” schedule as needed.

Work overtime as deemed necessary by the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent. Responsible for payroll, evaluations and positive disciplinary action for assigned employees. Must be able to work Holidays, weekends and shift work as required.

Requirements: Knowledge and Skills Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have a Class I State of Georgia Wastewater License Must have a Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification. Must have completed or ability to complete OSHA NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Must have OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Outreach Training certification. Advanced mechanical knowledge of industrial piping, pumps and plant functions. Knowledge of material, supplies, chemicals, and equipment for the operation of wastewater treatment. Ability to analyze complex issues and develop and implement an appropriate response. Basic computer skills using Excel, Outlook, Windows, PowerPoint, and Word Ability to read, understand and implement blueprints, maps and engineering plans and specifications. Ability to plan, schedule, supervise and manage time efficiently. Good communication skills - verbal and written. Advanced understanding of wastewater treatment. Five years of supervisory experience. Six years of wastewater treatment and operations and maintenance experience. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical/Environmental

Requirements Mobility to work in typical office settings using standard office equipment is required. In addition, vision to read printed materials and computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Work around infectious diseases, heavy equipment, electrical equipment, gear reducers, loud noise, and toxic chemicals.
