Our client, a global manufacturing company, is seeking a

Senior R&D Engineer

to play a key role in identifying sustainable packaging solutions and bringing new polymer technologies from development to commercialization. This individual will leverage expertise in

plastics extrusion, thermoforming, and material handling

to lead projects that enhance productivity, capacity, and efficiency across multiple manufacturing plants. What Youll Be Doing: Serve as a subject matter expert in processing plastic materials for consumer packaging. Provide recommendations on manufacturing equipment to support current operations and enable future growth. Address customer needs and packaging opportunities in a manufacturing setting. Manage technical integration of projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers to solve complex problems and enhance product performance. Originate new ideas to support R&D product innovation and technology strategies. Foster an engaging and collaborative environment within the R&D organization. Promote a safe workplace and ensure compliance with company safety policies. Travel up to 40% (primarily domestic). Position is

onsite in Franklin Park, IL . What Were Looking For: B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science. 7+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing and processing (extrusion, thermoforming, tooling) ; consumer food packaging experience a plus. Proven success leading capital projects with OEMs and suppliers. Knowledge of PET, PP, HIPS, and PE resins and formula additives ; coatings and lamination experience a plus. Results-driven, with initiative, ownership, and a hands-on work ethic. Strong technical problem-solving capabilities and effective communication skills. Highly organized, self-motivated, and adaptable to fast-paced environments.
