Job Description Salary: Position Summary: We are seeking a seasoned, highly motivated Purchasing Supervisor to lead and support our team of Purchasing Assistants (Buyers). This individual will play a critical role in the daily execution of our procurement activities, maintaining strong working relationships with both internal departments and external vendors, and driving continuous improvement within our HMC purchasing operations. The ideal candidate brings proven leadership experience, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to both manage and execute purchasing processes. This is a hands-on supervisory role, requiring flexibility to step in as a Buyer when needed as this team handles the administration of the purchasing of commodity items related to the shop and field. Assist in researching equipment, material, and supply vendors and confirming pricing, terms & conditions, etc. Maintains files or keeps computerized systems up to date for follow-up on materials purchased, prices, inventories, promised delivery dates and delivery status. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Team Leadership & Supervision
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Purchasing Assistants (Buyers), ensuring alignment with company objectives and service expectations. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide mentorship to support growth and accountability.
Process & Program Management
Oversee the execution of purchasing processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service levels. Collaborate with other Support Services teams (Tools, Warehouse, Logistics) to align workflows and priorities.
Internal & External Relationship Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for procurement-related matters with internal stakeholders and key suppliers. Facilitate clear communication between Purchasing, Project Management, Field Operations, Warehouse, and Accounting. Help resolve supplier disputes, delivery issues, and escalated concerns as needed.
Analytical & Strategic Support
Monitor key purchasing metrics and develop reports to support business decisions. Analyze spending, supplier performance, and material trends to recommend cost-saving opportunities or strategic adjustments. Contribute to the development and rollout of strategic sourcing initiatives and vendor programs.
Tactical Purchasing Support
As needed, support the team by handling purchase requests, placing orders, and resolving urgent procurement issues. Ensure compliance with contractual and company purchasing policies and requirements.
Special projects as directed by the Supply-Chain Director
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in supply chain, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. 5+ years of purchasing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Strong working knowledge of procurement systems, supplier management, and sourcing strategies.
Knowledge of Coins software is a benefit
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional collaboration.
Proficiency with Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Analytical and detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset. Ability to manage competing priorities and pivot quickly in a fast-paced environment. Construction or mechanical industry experience is a plus.
