is partnering with a leading boutique engineering firm to identify an experienced

Senior Electrical Engineer

specializing in Protection & Control (P&C) for substations . This role is essential to the successful design, planning, and execution of substation and transmission projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will oversee P&C design, manage project schedules and budgets, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, reliable solutions for utility clients. Key Responsibilities: Lead P&C design for substations and transmission line projects, including bus, line, capacitor, and transformer protection schemes.

Develop SCADA communication designs and integrate protection, control, and monitoring systems.

Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation projects.

Review, create, and engineer P&C designs up to 500kV, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, relay settings, and SCADA configurations.

Conduct studies for coordination, voltage drop, fault current, and installation feasibility, and prepare associated reports.

Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to junior engineers and designers.

Collaborate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design and construction issues.

Perform site visits to provide engineering support during construction and commissioning.

Manage project budgets, schedules, and documentation to ensure timely delivery of high-quality designs.

Prepare technical specifications for major substation equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and control houses.

Ensure designs comply with industry standards and codes (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI).

Perform calculations including voltage drop, CT burden, lighting, and short-circuit analyses.

Participate in other duties and projects as needed, including filling in for other engineering roles when required.

Required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 4+ years of utility substation P&C design experience (15kV–500kV).

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (ABET/EAC accredited) or NCEES-approved evaluation for non-ABET credentials.

Strong understanding of substation and transmission P&C fundamentals.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and relay software preferred.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.

Valid driver’s license for multi-state travel.

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain PE within one year.

Preferred Qualifications: 5–10 years of substation P&C design experience.

Experience with SEL or GE relays, SCADA systems, and communications interfaces.

Knowledge of substation grounding and lightning protection design.

Proficiency in software tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, acSELerator, SKM, WinIGS, CYME, CAPE, or GE URsetup.

Experience leading large or complete substation design projects.
