Job Summary/Objective: The Inventory Control/Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and analyzing manufacturing costs, inventory management, and fixed asset processes. This role ensures accurate reporting, cost control, and operational efficiency in a fast-paced, food-manufacturing environment. The position plays a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, driving process improvements, and supporting key business decisions by providing timely and relevant cost analyses and insights. Essential Functions: Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis

Develop, analyze, audit and maintain cost structures, including bills of materials, labor, and overhead rates in the ERP system. Complete manufacturing accounting activities and analyze variances between actual and standard costs; provide actionable insights on trends and anomalies. Prepare margin analysis, PPV, breakeven points, and cost projections for new and existing processes. Support monthly close and annual audit activities, including reconciliation and reporting of inventory, fixed assets, and capital leases.

Inventory Control Management

Implement inventory control processes, including cycle counting, physical inventory, scrap tracking, and production reporting. Oversees inventory accuracy by investigating discrepancies and ensuring corrective actions are taken promptly. Act as a finance liaison with operations and logistics teams to align inventory practices with financial goals.

Data Systems & KPI Reporting

Design data collection systems to monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to manufacturing costs, production variances, and inventory accuracy. Create reports and dashboards for financial insights, including monthly cost summaries and variance reports.

Policy Development & Compliance

Create, maintain, and enforce policies and procedures for inventory control, production activities, fixed assets, and capital leases. Ensure compliance with internal controls and industry best practices in a food-manufacturing environment.

Team Leadership & Development

Supervise and develop Inventory Control Associates, including setting objectives, performance evaluations, and ongoing coaching. Lead regular team meetings to align goals, foster collaboration, and drive continuous improvement.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Assist in the preparation of operational and capital budgets by providing manufacturing cost, labor, and overhead analyses in developing standard costs. Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide variance explanations to leadership.

Competencies: Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory control in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency with integrated ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to build relationships across cross-functional teams. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises Inventory Control Associates. Provides leadership, direction, and development for direct reports aligning team goals with Company objectives. Work Environment: Primarily works in an office setting within manufacturing facilities. Regular visits to production areas and facilities are required, where exposure to machinery, varying temperatures, and noise may occur. Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Must be able to perform duties in a manufacturing environment, including navigating production areas and working around equipment. Position Type: Full-Time Work Hours: Monday to Friday; typical office hours with flexibility based on business needs. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 7-10 years of progressive experience in cost accounting and inventory management within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience with ERP systems and month-end close processes. Preferred Education & Experience: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Experience in the food manufacturing industry. CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification.
