Seasonal Intermittent Front-of-House Positions
The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking Seasonal Intermittent applicants to fill Front-of-House positions at the Publick Playhouse in Cheverly MD. The Publick Playhouse is a 494-seat venue that serves as a premier destination for dynamic, inclusive, and culturally rich arts programming in Prince George's County. From signature performances and community events to youth engagement and artist-led initiatives, the Playhouse delivers on its mission to inspire, entertain, and connect. Box Office/Front Desk Position ($16.00/hr.-$17.50/hr.)
This position serves as a key point of contact for patrons and visitors to the Publick Playhouse. The Box Office & Front Desk Associate manages daily ticket sales and provides excellent customer service both in person and over the phone. Responsibilities include: Handling walk-up and phone ticket sales using a computerized ticketing/reservation system Managing cash and processing payments accurately Answering patron questions about events and programming Greeting and assisting visitors upon entry Maintaining cleanliness and organization of lobby area and ticket counter Supporting administrative tasks such as mailings and special projects Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in theatre or equivalent experience in the performing arts Strong background in customer service Knowledge of general office procedures and comfort with office equipment and systems Excellent communication, multitasking, and troubleshooting skills Additional Information: This position is to cover shifts during our weekday hours of operation (M-F, 8:30 AM
5:00 PM) Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be available during events or performances Candidates with consistent daytime availability will be given priority Usher Position ($16.00/hr.-$17.00/hr.)
Ushers interact directly with patrons and guests during a wide range of events at the Publick Playhouse. These include performances for seniors, school groups, and mixed-age audiences, as well as non-performance events such as classes, workshops, art receptions, rentals, and more. Responsibilities include: Greeting and checking in patrons (via ticket or roster) Scanning tickets and assisting patrons with seating, including accessible seating Troubleshooting seating issues and providing excellent customer service Working at the concession stand window Maintaining clean and safe restrooms and lobby areas Providing attendance numbers to management at the end of events, as needed Ushers who excel at their tasks and have availability for a variety of shifts may be considered for a House Manager role Minimum Qualifications for both Front-of-House Positions: Completion of safety training is required for all positions; this may include certification in First Aid and CPR A passion for the performing arts is essential, along with comfort speaking with patrons both in person and over the phone Candidates must be willing to learn about the full range of programming at the Publick Playhouse, as well as become familiar with offerings at other Arts Centers. This includes knowing how to locate information to assist patrons effectively. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge or background in the performing arts is highly desirable Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Strong problem-solving abilities Comfortable interacting with a diverse range of patrons Additional Information: This is an event-based position; weekly hours will vary depending on our event schedule. The typical season runs from late September through early June. Candidates with any combination of weekday, weekend, daytime, and evening availability will be considered.
