General Purpose

The Custodian will provide regular cleaning and related work to City buildings to ensure they are presentable for public use and maintained in a safe, sanitary, and welcoming condition. This position supports the functionality and appearance of City facilities by performing routine cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and reporting building repair and other needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors in offices, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other public areas. Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures; restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. Empty and clean wastebaskets and recycling bins; remove trash to appropriate disposal areas. Dust and wipe down surfaces including desks, counters, windowsills, baseboards, and furniture. Clean interior glass, windows, doors, and partitions. Launder linens Monitor and replenish cleaning and restroom supplies as needed. Lock and unlock buildings and rooms according to schedule; ensure security of City facilities after hours. Perform minor maintenance tasks and report maintenance needs to division Lead. Assist in setting up and taking down furniture and equipment for meetings, events, and public functions. Respond to emergency clean-up situations, such as spills or biohazard incidents, promptly and safely. Follow established safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Maintain cleaning equipment and report any damage or need for replacement. Work independently or as part of a team to complete daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning assignments. Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in a custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, public, or institutional setting. Must be able to pass CJIS compliance Valid Driver's License. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Supplemental Information

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Basic cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and supplies in accordance with safety regulations (e.g., SDS guidelines). Safe handling and disposal of waste, including biohazards or sharp objects. Basic building maintenance and repair tasks. Operating custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, and ladders. Using hand tools and light maintenance tools effectively. Time management and prioritizing tasks to meet cleaning schedules and special requests. Maintaining records of completed tasks and supply usage (if applicable). Follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures. Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Interact courteously and professionally with City staff, contractors, and the public. Lift, move, and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical labor for extended periods. Identify and report safety hazards or building issues promptly. Maintain confidentiality and respect for secure or sensitive areas in City facilities.

Continuous standing, walking, using hands, arms, wrists. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching above shoulders, carrying/lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs, climbing stairs. Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.

May involve early morning, evening, or weekend shifts depending on facility needs as assigned. This position is not eligible for benefits. 01
