Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities

The Graphic & Web Designer supports the University's digital and creative efforts by producing high-quality designs for websites, email campaigns, and digital platforms, while also contributing to print and environmental projects. Reporting to the Chief of Brand Strategy, with day-to-day collaboration directed by the Associate Director of Web & Email Communications, this position ensures that LIU's digital and visual presence is engaging, accessible, mobile-friendly, and brandconsistent.

The Graphic & Web Designer collaborates across the Brand Strategy team to deliver cohesive creative assets that advance enrollment, alumni engagement, advancement, athletics, and institutional reputation goals.

Principal Marketing Responsibilities

• Design and produce digital and print creative assets for University-wide marketing campaigns, events, and communications.

• Ensure adherence to LIU's brand standards, including logos, typography, colors, and accessibility requirements.

• Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Web & Email Communications to design, update, and maintain website layouts, navigation, landing pages, and microsites.

• Support functional web needs such as content updates, imagery, page formatting, and template refinements.

• Work with the Associate Director of Marketing & Graphic Design to ensure consistency across creative campaigns and provide design support for print and event collateral.

• Partner with the Associate Director of Multimedia Storytelling & Special Projects to integrate graphics into video, photography, and social media content.

• Support the Senior Associate Director of Strategic Publications & Partnerships with digital adaptations of newsletters, magazines, and other publications as needed.

• Prepare optimized digital files for web and email, ensuring cross-platform compatibility and accessibility.

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing creative quality with deadlines.

• Coordinate with IT, web vendors, and email service providers to ensure proper functionality of digital assets.

• Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Brand Strategy, Associate Director of Web & Email Communications, or senior University leadership.

Focus Area Responsibilities:

Graphic & Web Design

• Web Design & Maintenance:

Design and maintain web pages, landing pages, and microsites, ensuring they are mobile-friendly, visually engaging, and aligned with brand standards.

• User Experience & Navigation:

Improve site usability and navigation in collaboration with IT and the Web & Email team, ensuring ADA compliance and intuitive design.

• Email & Digital Campaigns:

Create branded templates, layouts, and graphics for email marketing and CRM-driven communication tracks.

• Print & Collateral Support:

Assist with the design of brochures, signage, advertisements, and other print projects as needed.

• Collaboration with Brand Strategy Team:

o Work with the Web & Email team to ensure updates and campaigns are visually consistent and technically optimized.

o Support the Marketing & Graphic Design team in producing assets for recruitment, advancement, and event branding.

o Collaborate with the Multimedia team to supply graphics and templates for social media and video campaigns.

o Partner with the Publications team to adapt layouts and visuals for digital versions of University magazines, newsletters, and reports.

• Technical Support:

Assist with basic CMS updates, image optimization, and file formatting. Collaborate with IT on functionality and troubleshooting when needed.

• File & Asset Management:

Maintain organized design files, templates, and digital asset libraries for web and print projects.

Education Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in graphic design, web design, digital media, or a related field is required.

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience

• Minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience in graphic and/or web design; higher education or nonprofit experience preferred.

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD) and web design tools (Figma or equivalent).

• Experience working with content management systems, preferably Sitecore, Sidearm Sports, and WordPress.

• Strong portfolio showcasing both web design (layouts, navigation, digital templates) and graphic design projects.

• Familiarity with HTML/CSS; working knowledge of responsive and accessible design standards.

• Experience creating graphics for social media and digital campaigns.

• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with strong attention to detail.

• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely across design, web, multimedia, and publications teams.

Working Conditions

Some evening and weekend work may be required for University events and time-sensitive projects. Occasional travel to/from LIU campuses and external vendor or partner sites may also be required.
