Forest Grove High School is seeking a Theatre Costume Designer for its Theatre Department.
POSITION SUMMARY
The job of Theatre Costume designer is to collaborate with the FGHS Theatre Director to establish character identities.. The Theatre Costume Designer will develop and create costumes to reflect the time and place of play performances. The Theatre Costume designer will be responsible for recruiting and managing the costume crew, as well as recruit and manage hair and makeup crew. The Theatre Costume Designer will be responsible for ensuring costumes are ready for each performance, as well as coordinating costume fittings and alterations. This position reports to the Theatre Director and FGHS administrator in charge of the theatre program and does not supervise any employees.
Creates costumes that reflect the time and place of the play.
Collaborates with the director to establish character identities.
Recruits and manages costume crew
Recruits and manages hair and makeup crew
Maintains and repairs costumes.
Ensures costumes are ready for each performance.
Coordinates costume fittings and alterations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible
for recruiting and managing the costume crew, as well as recruit and manage hair and makeup crew. The Theatre Costume Designer will be responsible for ensuring costumes are ready for each performance, as well as coordinating costume fittings and alterations Creates
costumes to reflect the time and place of play performances Collaborates
with theatre and performance director and staff. Develops
and create costume, hair and make up teams and costumes. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Confers
regularly with the theatre director(s). Maintains
consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position. Performs
other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience : Prior experience in theatre and/or costume design preferred.
Skills : Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organization skills. Skills to create, alter, and mend costumes as well as hair and make up. Skills in managing a student crew to assist in costume design and production.
Knowledge : Knowledge and experience in theatre and costume design..
Abilities : Work harmoniously with others. Work and communicate effectively with students, parents, members of the public and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job. Work independently without supervision, and with minimum oral/written instructions. Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, moving to various locations.
Continuing Education/Training Clearances : Pre-employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
