Construction Superintendent

This is a field-based role requiring frequent travel to project sites across Upstate NY, Denver, and the Midwest. Candidates must be adaptable to varying site conditions and possess a valid driver's license.

Job Overview

The Solar Construction Superintendent provides on-site leadership for midsize community solar projects ranging from 1 to 10 megawatts. This role oversees all field operations including civil, mechanical, and electrical work to ensure safe, timely, and budget-conscious project delivery. The Superintendent leads field crews and subcontractors, enforces quality and safety standards, and serves as the primary on-site contact for stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct daily field operations, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and maintain project schedules, including detailed 24 week look-aheads.
  • Coordinate logistics for materials and equipment to ensure timely availability.
  • Monitor labor productivity and manage costs to maintain budget compliance.
  • Lead daily huddles to foster communication and resolve issues proactively.
  • Enforce company safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulations.
  • Conduct daily job hazard analyses and safety talks.
  • Maintain the Quality Management System through regular inspections and adherence to design specifications.
  • Act as the on-site liaison for project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and utility inspectors.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation (daily reports, logs, site photos).
  • Participate in subcontractor and project meetings to coordinate progress.
  • Communicate project updates, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Anticipate and resolve construction, design, or logistics issues creatively and efficiently.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 58 years of experience in solar or general construction, with 24 years in a supervisory role.
  • Expertise in civil, mechanical, and electrical construction trades.
  • Strong understanding of PV system components, racking systems, and grounding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid).
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage tight timelines and competing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00/hr.
