The Pediatric Care Technician (PCT)/Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is an unlicensed multi skilled worker who supports both patient care and non patient care activities for the patient.
Responsibilities include performing specific nursing tasks and support functions as delegated by a licensed provider while supervised by a Registered Nurse, providing clerical support to the unit staff and physicians, coordinating referrals, and managing the patient medical records. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Valley Childrens Hospital is Central Californias only Regional Level IV NICU - the highest level of medical care available for premature and critically ill newborns. With a focus on family-centered care, our patients have access to a full range of pediatric and surgical specialists that treat potentially life-threatening illnesses due to extreme prematurity, congenital defects, injury, chronic illnesses and more. Our NICU patient ratios are 1:1 or 2:1 in the ICU and 1:3 in Intermediate Care. Collectively, our NICUs provide specialized care for more than 1,400 fragile babies and nearly 25,000 patient days a year.
Our team supports a network of NICUs throughout Central California, providing services for Madera County, Merced County, Fresno County, Kings County and Tulare County. Our level II and level III satellite NICUs (Fresno, Merced & Hanford) are staffed with Valley Childrens team of experts to provide patients the opportunity to receive treatment closer to home. The nurses in these satellite units are trained to attend high-risk deliveries and resuscitate babies in the delivery room if needed. Our NICU is ranked as one of the best childrens hospitals in Neonatology by U.S. News & World Report for 2023-2024- the seventh such ranking for our NICU. Our network offers highly specialized medical and surgical services to care for children with conditions ranging from common to the highly complex at our 358-bed stand-alone childrens hospital that includes 28 regional NICU beds. Our family-centered, pediatric services extend from a leading pediatric cancer and blood disorders center home on the West Coast, and a pediatric heart center known for its expertise and pioneering treatments, to a Regional Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the highest level referral center between Los Angeles and the Bay Area. EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a patient care program (i.e. MA, CNA, EMT), or two semesters of a Nursing Program, or two years in a similar role in lieu of a patient care program or nursing requirement Minimum six (6) months providing direct patient care preferred Ability to work in a team environment Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner Medical terminology and Bilingual skills preferred EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: High School diploma as accredited by the US Department of Education or GED required BLS
Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position CHUC
