Frontier Veterinary Hospital has an opportunity for a Full Time Veterinary Receptionist to join our team!

Location: 4500 NE Cornell Road, Hillsboro, Oregon 97124

Compensation: $20 - 22/hr depending on experience.

Shift Details: Ability to work full time/5 days per week, with early morning and evening availability, and at least 1 weekend day per week. Weekend availability is a plus, with option for consecutive weekdays off.

Job Summary

The Receptionist is the first and last contact that a client will have with the hospital and a key to creating first and lasting impressions. The Receptionist must have exceptional client service and communication skills, computer literacy, ability to handle payment and financial issues, the ability to multi-task, a friendly attitude and confidence to deal with stressful situations. The Receptionist will support veterinarians, technicians, veterinary assistants, groomers and kennel staff in daily patient and client care.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of MVP.
  • Greet clients and pets by name with a smile and a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line phone system; respond to inquiries about basic animal care and routine procedures, veterinary services and products, and provide knowledgeable advice about wellness, prevention, and diseases.
  • Screen and route calls to appropriate staff; take and deliver messages promptly and pull medical records when needed.
  • Schedule appointments and surgeries according to hospital guidelines; make confirmation calls.
  • Note in medical records the details discussed during client conversations, including date, time, key points, and required information.
  • Enter accurate charges; explain invoices and list all services and products; reiterate doctors’ recommendations at checkout.
  • Collect payments, including handling cash, processing credit cards, and verifying IDs for checks.
  • Verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts.
  • Check and update medical and computer records for accurate contact information and scan new documents to patient records.
  • Fill prescription refill forms and provide routine administration instructions to clients.
  • Advise clients on flea/tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives, pre-anesthetic testing, pain management, shampoos, home dental products, and other retail items.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to MVP core values.
  • Computer knowledge required—keyboarding and use of email/internet.
  • Working knowledge of veterinary terminology; able to pronounce, spell, and know the meaning.
  • Excellent spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult conditions; may be exposed to highly emotional situations.
  • Ability to display tact and respect with clients and team members, even when busy or hectic.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a confident, calm, and professional manner when situations are stressful.
  • Must feel and express a genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in an animal care field.
