TITLE: Social Worker
QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate Illinois Certificate
Master of Social Work Degree
Ability to relate to students, staff, parents, the public and community service agencies.
JOB GOAL: To help students resolve personal, emotional and social adjustment problems that interfere with their capacity to derive the complete benefit of the education program.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate, plan and implement social emotional interventions, including but not limited to, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, and social emotional learning.
• Assist school personnel with crisis intervention for students and families in the school setting.
• Consults with the professional staff to help better understand and work with children or manage classes.
• Serves as a liaison between school, family, and community agencies.
• Practice group work with students.
• Works with parents as individuals or in groups.
• Participates in case conferences with professional staff.
• Follow and implement mandates, guidance and directives provided by the Special Education Department; including, but not limited to, the Special Education Coordinator and Special Education Director.
• Provides the social-developmental study in a case study evaluation and participate in the identification of those children who require social work intervention.
• Re-evaluates students in Special Education placement every third year.
• Consults with administrators and teachers on broad areas of mental health as they relate to elementary education.
• Provides individual case work to students.
• Organizes and participates in in-service training programs.
• Participates in professional social work organizations and attends conferences subject to Board approval.
• Other duties as assigned by the building principal or special education department.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year. Salary and contract terms to be established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
