General Summery:
The St. Vincent de Paul ("SVDP") Warehouse Sorter supports the mission of the organization and will efficiently receive, sort, rag, and transfer merchandise to the retail stores in order to optimize revenue raised for each donated item, with the goal of raising funds and providing no-cost goods tot hose in need in support of SVDP's mission. The Warehouse Sorter reports to the Assistant Director of Retail Operations and has no direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education, Experience & Certification: High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred Previous warehouse, retail, or inventory experience preferred but not required
B. Other Qualifications
Possess sufficient reading comprehension abilities to understand and implement established operational procedures Demonstrate math and computer technology skills Respect for the teaching and traditions of the Catholic Church, mission and values of SVDP
C. Physical Demands
Maintain ability to stand and ambulate for extended periods of up to eight (8) hours with appropriate rest periods Perform manual dexterity tasks requiring use of hands and arms for reaching, grasping, and manipulating objects; and arms to reach Utilize verbal communication, auditory, and visual capabilities for extended durations Occasionally assume seated positions; navigate stairs or inclines; and perform postural movements including stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling Frequently lift and transport items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted Occasionally lift and transport items weighing more than fifty plus (50+) pounds unassisted
D. Working Environment
Position operates primarily in a distribution center setting that is non-climate controlled Schedule flexibility required, including potential evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as necessitated by business requirements Exposure to dust, odors, and occasionally soiled donations Periodic exposure to outdoor weather conditions may be necessary Work environment may include exposure to moderate noise levels May occasionally work in confined spaces such as storage areas, and in high precarious places May occasionally work near moving mechanical parts Potential exposure to standard warehouse hazards requiring adherence to safety protocols
Essential Job Duties/Performance Standards:
A. Donation Processing
Receive and unload donated merchandise according to established safety protocols Evaluate all donations for quality, condition, cleanliness, and functionality according to SVDP standards and optimal disposition Sort items by category, type, and quality tier (good, better, best) following organization guidelines Identify items requiring special handling, cleaning, or repair Properly process items that do not meet quality standards for retail sale Organize sorted merchandise for efficient distribution to appropriate retail locations Prepare and stage merchandise for transport according to established procedures Maintain established productivity standards for processing volume Identify high-value or unique items that may require specialized pricing or handling Follow all safety procedures when handling donations that may contain hazardous materials
B. Warehouse Operations
Maintain clean, organized work areas throughout the distribution center Assist with inventory management and organization in distribution facilities Operate equipment such as balers, pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklifts and sorting bins as needed Support loading and unloading of delivery vehicles as required Complete required documentation for processed donations accurately Report any safety concerns or operational issues to supervisor promptly Assist with general distribution center maintenance and cleaning duties Perform additional duties as assigned by management
