Histotechnologist
Performs standardized histotechnology procedures under supervision by the Histology Section leader and Section Pathologist. What you will do: May perform routine histology techniques including, but not limited to: tissue embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping, labeling, and case distribution. May perform special histology and/or cytology specimen processing procedures including but limited to muscle and nerve biopsy preparation, fine needle aspiration, immunohistochemical staining, histochemical stains, and bone marrow processing. Accessions specimens into computer system. Assists pathologist or pathology assistant in performing gross examination of tissue specimens. Assist Pathologist and/or Clinician in obtaining bone marrow specimens. May perform gross on select specimens under the supervision of the Pathologist. May prepare frozen sections, and other immediate attention specimens for intraoperative diagnosis. May perform miscellaneous tasks including but not limited to: routine maintenance, specimen filing, sending reference lab specimens and preparing reagents or solutions. Assists with student teaching and training. Assists with quality assurance and continuous quality improvement projects. Essential Qualifications: The individual must be able to work the hours specified. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience: Associate's Transcript showing 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both) or Some College acceptance into an accredited histology certification program Histotechnician (HT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1-1/2 Yrs Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience: 1-3 years of full time, acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory from an accredited laboratory within the last five years Expectations and Standards: Commitment to the daily application of Avera's mission, vision, core values, and social principles to serve patients, their families, and our community.
