Bard College is hiring: Security Guard in New York

Overview

The full-time Security Guard is responsible for the security and monitoring of campus activities and buildings as directed by the Security Director. They’re responsible for ensuring the safety of campus students, employees, and guests to the College.

Base pay range

$24.90/hr - $24.90/hr

Responsibilities

• Alarm response, escort service for students and employees, routine vehicle and foot patrol, access control, lock outs, prevention of damage and theft to property, prevention of criminal activity and traffic control


• Accurate completion of reports, as required


• Maintain general knowledge of plumbing and heating to relate issues to appropriate buildings and grounds staff


• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation tactics in required situations


• Respond rapidly and effectively to crisis situations, as required


• Assist with dispatcher duties, as required


• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Required


• Minimum 1 year of security experience; college campus security experience preferred


• Must complete New York State 8-hour Pre-Assignment Training Certification


• Must complete New York State 16-hour On-the-Job Training


• Must maintain a New York State Safe Driver Certification and a valid New York State Driver's License


• Applicants must be registered with New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, Bureau for Municipal Police, Security Guard Division


• Good character references, good health (hearing and eyesight), neatness and dependability


• Mental alertness, emotional stability and physical fitness to deal with emergencies


• Attention to accuracy, ability to work under pressure, multi-task and strong follow-up skills


• Acceptance of diverse, open-minded behaviors and/or actions


• Ability to deal with confidential matters


• Ability to work independently and in a team environment; promote the college positively on- and off-campus


• Ability to think quickly and act decisively in emergency situations


• Strong literacy, verbal and written skills

Physical Qualifications

• Ability to use equipment, such as hand radio, telephone and motor vehicles


• 10% availability to travel outside of 75-mile radius

Compensation: $24.90/hour

This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions depend on factors including market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
