The HR Director for Life Science Fluidics & Shared Operations reports to the Vice President HR, IH&S, and oversees all human resources functions for the Fluidics sites in the United States and the site in Japan. This role partners with IH&S leadership to align HR initiatives with business goals and acts as a strategic HR business partner for the IH&S VP Operations.

IDEX Health & Science (IH&S) is the global leader in life science fluidics, microfluidics, and optics, supporting customers with optofluidic solutions and expertise across chromatography, in vitro diagnostics, biotechnology, and more. The Life Science Fluidics & Shared Operations teams comprise over 600 colleagues across 5 sites: Rohnert Park, CA; Oak Harbor, WA; Middleboro, MA; Bristol, CT; and Kawaguchi, Japan.

Scope of Role

The HR Director will lead the global Life Science Fluidics HR team (6 directors/managers) and provide day-to-day support for the business. Responsibilities include building a high-performing organization through engagement, leadership development, talent processes, recruitment, employee relations, organizational development, compensation, compliance, retention, and development. This role is a member of the IH&S Operations Senior Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an overall global Life Science Fluidics & Shared Operations HR strategy, in partnership with the VP Operations, to align with the business strategy.
  • Analyze business processes, financial metrics, and organizational structures to inform HR solutions.
  • Support organizational design efforts to strengthen the current business structure.
  • Partner with Life Science Operations Senior Leadership Team to execute and deliver results.
  • Coach, develop, and mentor a team of HR professionals to elevate the organization.
  • Ensure cost-effectiveness, market competitiveness, and internal equity in HR processes.
  • Lead change initiatives and implement HR strategies to meet organizational goals.
  • Utilize engagement survey results to drive programs that improve the work environment and management effectiveness.
  • Establish credibility with management and employees as a trusted HR resource.
  • Apply total pay concepts to attract, motivate, and retain key employees.
  • Facilitate performance management, including defining success, measuring outcomes, providing feedback, and rewarding performance.
  • Use workforce planning to identify HR implications and develop solutions to meet identified needs.
  • Anticipate HR issues from business strategies and partner with leaders to implement proactive solutions, including recruitment, performance management, organization design, employee relations, leadership development, and corporate responsibility.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention programs; develop staffing strategies for internal and external talent.
  • Develop and monitor opportunities for employee and leadership development; create career path models to support growth.
  • Monitor legal requirements and government regulations (e.g., OSHA, EEO, ERISA, wage and hour issues).

Education, Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Human Resources with progressive roles and people leadership.
  • Strong technical skills with appropriate industry experience; generalist background in employment, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, and training.
  • Familiarity with FMLA, ADA and related regulations; ability to resolve conflicts and build credibility with leaders and employees.
  • Decisive, results-oriented, and capable of balancing business needs with individual requirements.
  • Experience in non-union manufacturing environment; engineering/scientific/technical background preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop new processes, lead improvement projects, and communicate changes effectively.
  • Resourceful, organized, high energy, and able to manage multifaceted projects with day-to-day activities.
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver with strong collaboration across virtual teams.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HRIS).
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and build strong talent.
  • Travel approximately 15%.

Compensation and benefits: Total rewards include a range of $152,200.00 - $228,400.00, with eligibility for a performance-based bonus. Benefits include health coverage, 401(k) with company match, PTO, and more. More details on benefits are available on the company career page.
